Twitter Blues: Mass Celebs Lose Verification Checkmarks — Well, Most Of Them

As promised, Elon Musk purged celebrities of their legacy blue check marks from Twitter, leaving notables and politicians unwilling to shell out $8 a month to mingle with the rest of the hoi polloi.

Instead of ponying up, many of the country's most famous — many from Massachusetts — decided to forego another subscription fee and lose their vaunted verified status.

Most of them that is.

Of the 20 most searched Massachusetts-born celebrities — according to Google Analytics — who have an active Twitter account, only one remains verified.

Chris Evans, John Krasinski, Conan O'Brien, Meghan Trainor, Bill Burr, Ben Affleck, Dave Portnoy, and Joe Keery from "Stranger Things" all dropped the bird turd.

Only New Westbury's own John Cena, the WWE wrestler and actor, kept his.

Paying into Musk's verification scheme has split the platform, with many users who kept their checks being the target of ridicule. Some see it as a necessity to protect their image from identity thieves or remain part of the conversation, as not having it limits your reach.

The debate is even dividing families.

Mark Wahlberg tossed his check mark, but his brother Donnie Wahlberg still proudly reps the blue.

Though, it may not be so simple. It turns out some celebs got to keep their verification for free.

LeBron James swore he "ain't paying the 5" weeks ago, but his check mark remains following the great 4/20 purge.

Stephen King also said he isn't and won't pay for the service, but the prolific author kept his check.

That's because Elon Musk is fronting the bill for some celebrities. Though he hasn't said who they are or how he made that decision

It doesn't look like any Massachusetts-bred celebs made his list.
